Welcome to the website of IBEW Local 1212
On July 13, 2009 the newly elected slate of Officers and Executive Board Members of IBEW Local 1212 were sworn in as our representatives for the next four years.
The final version of the pages containing detailed information regarding our new slate of representatives has not yet been completed. However the Officer's Section of this site provides some preliminary facts on the members chosen to serve.
We all join in giving our thanks to those representatives who are leaving office with the beginning of this new term. They served through a time that saw many changes for the worse in our industry
While difficult times may be ahead there is a growing feeling of strength and confidence...
and the nation’s economy, few of which could be controlled by our union or even the companies where our members are employed. While in our democratically run union there will and should always be room for disagreement about the methods or decisions of our representatives, no one should ever doubt that they did their best. Again, a sincere thank you and good luck to all of you.
Business Manager Ralph Avigliano will soon be publishing a message of greetings and introduction to the membership. He will outline his plans and ideas for the direction our Local will take to meet the ever growing challenges we face.
While difficult times may be ahead, there is a growing feeling of strength and confidence instilled in our representatives and membership that through the force of our unity we will prevail over all obstacles. With confidence in ourselves and our union we will forge an increasingly better life for all of us who have bound our livelihood to the broadcast and recording industry.

IBEW Team Makes Super Bowl Work
by James Parks at the AFL-CIO blog
Super Bowl XLIV was the most watched show in TV history. But before the New Orleans Saints and the Indianapolis Colts took the field, a different kind of team was behind the scenes, making sure the game was seen around the world.

CBS News Division Hit With Layoffs
New York, Washington bureau to feel cuts, total number expected to be less than 100
The news division at CBS was hit with layoffs Monday (Feb. 1), according to sources there.
The company began informing employees Friday (Jan. 29) and notifications continued into Monday.
The cuts will further eliminate news gathering costs and will be felt at broadcast headquarters in New York but also at the 150-person Washington bureau, according to those familiar with the discussions.
Most CBS News programs will end up losing some staff including 60 Minutes, which has largely been spared the axe that has periodically fallen on other programs and departments. The total number of layoffs is expected to come in under 100 or less than 7% of the news division.
CBS News declined to comment.

REBUILD THE AMERICAN DREAM With the
EMPLOYEE FREE CHOICE ACT
No matter how strong an economic stimulus plan we have, it will not result in broadly
shared, lasting prosperity unless we also restore workers’ freedom to join together to
bargain with their employers for a better life.
Higher levels of union membership raise the standard of living for all workers. We
need to level the playing field to turn around the economy and rebuild the American
Dream. It’s why we need the Employee Free Choice Act.
